This course is designed to provide students with awareness and skills in manual handling including the lifting, carrying and moving of loads or articles.

- Legal requirements and understanding manual handling operations
- Structure, anatomy and function of the spine
- Common back injuries and their causes
- Principles of safe lifting and movement
- Recognise the need for team lifting and making use of equipment where appropriate
- Practical exercises

Knowledge to enable students to identify, assess, select and develop correct procedures to reduce risks involved in manual handling operations.

Heart specialist Dr Christopher Duke said Sophie 'would have survived' if she had received continuous CPR. He said 'You don't stop resuscitation just because a patient appears to be breathing. You only stop if there's breathing and a pulse.'
